The West End Community Empowerment Project (WECEP) of Lexington, Inc is a ‘grassroots’ project located in the Black and Williams Neighborhood Center, 498 Georgetown Street since its establishment. WECEP was founded in January 1995, incorporated in April 1996 and received its 501 C-3 non-profit status in August 1998. In order to better serve its constituents in the Georgetown Street Corridor area, WECEP received child care license for its school-age program, Sankofa University, in October 2010. The concept of the Sankofa University is to provide affordable, quality school-age programming for low-income families needing school age care. Currently the university offers an array of academic, social, cultural enrichment and performing arts.
